Our newspaper took a drone flight to document one last time the present state on top of the Loreley plateau between youth hostel (below) and mountaintop hotel (above). Starting in October, several buildings will be demolished. By 2018, a nature park dealing with the Loreley myth will be built there.
The cliff top of the Loreley plateau is a key attraction in the World Heritage Site Upper Middle Rhine Valley with around 300,000 visitors annually.
The mountaintop hotel will be razed. The end of an artificial Cliff Path will lead visitors past the vaulted cellar of the building and then open up to give them a broad panorama over the Rhine.
Not only the cliff-top plateau will be completely rebuilt starting in autumn, the Loreley Open Air Theater, including the tent roof, will also be renovated for around 4.5 million Euros and built to meet current safety standards.
The construction of a four-star hotel is being planned for the campground site with its view over the Rhine towards the south. This work will be carried out as part of an urban planning contract.
